Hail, Phoenix’s Vul-Con 2012!

Vul-Con Arena 1 - LightningOctopus

The guys behind Vul-Con 2012 are going big in February.

Of course, everything these guys do is on a large scale, from the size of the venue, to games, to guests, to tournaments.

I’ve been to a Vul-Con Gaming Arena before; it’s hard to convey the size, quality, and details of some of their creations:

Vul-Con Arena 1 - LightningOctopus 1

Built around a Roman Empire theme, Vul-Con 2012 is promising to be the biggest tabletop gaming event ’round these parts and guests include Magic artists, game designers, writers, and all-around world builders.

Fancy yourself a bit of a game designer?

Bring your ideas and participate in Board Game God (a reality-show-style competition), and bring it to fruition.

Details?

  • February 25th – 26th.
  • At the Phoenix Convention Center.
  • Gaming, gaming, and more gaming.
  • Volunteering has its perks!
  • Learn everything you need on their site.

Render unto Vul-Con the things that are Vul-Con’s and get tickets for around $40.

Though I admit that tabletop games and miniatures are not my expertise, I am planning on checking it out.

And I’ve been enjoying ending my posts with somewhat relevant videos lately. Enjoy:

Some Tempe Students Are Making A Mass Effect Fan Film, And It Looks Pretty Sweet So Far

Mass Effect - Jemimus Flickr

If you’re a fan of the popular Mass Effect space-opera games, this could be some fun news.

Students at the UAT in Tempe announced yesterday that production on their Mass Effect fan film Red Sands has begun.

The film itself is supposed to serve as a sort of  prequal to the original game, and “tells the story of the discovery of ancient alien ruins on Mars, and the battle to control the technology contained inside.”

They have the actual voice of Shepard on board as an actor.

And I highly recommend browsing the film dept Facebook page for this project and feasting your eyes on some of the props they’ve got.

So far, my expectations are kinda high.

(I know at least two female BioWare fans who should be excited about this…)

DarkCon 2012 – An Arizona Steampunk & Fantasy Convention [DarkCon]

might-temp - from darkcon.org

If you like your ears pointy and your outfits steampunk-y, Mesa is hosting the perfect convention for you next month.

Gathering the valley’s role-playing, steampunk, and all-around fantasy nerds, DarkCon 2012 is happening in January 2012.

In addition to hosting workshops, gaming, and even LARPing, they’ll be hosting some guests of honor including: Jacqueline Carey, Doug Jones, Meg Foster, Bill Myer, Ruth Thompson, and John Wick & Ken St Andre.

I’m sure costumes will abound, so I recommend gobbling up as much as you can from Evermore Nevermore before they close this Friday.

And if like this whole gritty-fantasy-steampunk flavor, the convention is hosted by the local fantasy group The Dark Ones, who you may want to check out.
