This weekend, Phoenix gets smarter, goes to mars, and gathers together in an 80’s arcade.
Thursday, Jan 16th
Cram into Carly’s Bistro with a few dozen other nerds and cram your brain with a few homegrown nerdy presentations. This time around it’s all about surveillance, boasting presentations with titles like “Don’t fear the NSA, fear HR!” Maybe it’s time to dust off my tin foil hat.
I almost don’t even care how bad a low-budget movie is when space suits are involved. The Last Days on Mars isn’t winning any awards, but if you feel like finishing your Thursday night with a trip to the red planet, drop in to The Film Bar around 9:50pm for the last showing of this little flick.
Friday, Jan 17th
I couldn’t find a lot of details about opening night, but there’s an exhibit of comic books and sci fi opening at the Tempe Center For The Arts this Friday. I know a few events will be coming up soon that surround it, but for now it may be worth popping in just to check it out. No cover charge.
If you like a few jazz-hands mixed in with your Peter Pan prequels, you’re in luck! Gammage is hosting just such a thing all weekend. I’ve never seen it, but I’m guessing there will be pirates and at least a little flying involved. Friday’s show is at 7:30pm, but there are shows all weekend. Magical!
Saturday, Jan 18th
All hail the random superhero slash time traveler guy who makes a temporary 80′s arcade in Gilbert sometimes and post the dates/times on Craigslist. Join the awesome to the max madness around 8pm.
He hates snakes. You may or may not feel the same way. Raid some lost arks with everyone’s favorite person-named-after-a-dog. Starts at 9:30pm at Pollack Tempe Cinemas.
Nerds in the hizzle, yo. Hope your weekend is the bomb.
