This weekend, Phoenix parties with pirates, zombies, robots, ghostbusters, and otakus.

The thought of you having a “same old” weekend makes me die a little, deep down inside. So, I put this together for you:

Saturday, June 8th

Pirates Take Over The Salt River

If you’re going to go tubing down the Salt River this Saturday, you’d better dress up as a pirate. You’ll look like a total idiot if you’re the only one NOT wearing an eye patch. So dress up and enjoy the relaxing company of other sea farers (of questionable morality) as you ride the lazy river for the day. Prizes for the best costumes.

Starts as early at 8:30am and goes all day.

We <3 Zombies! [Phoenix]

Zombies. You love ‘em. So, let’s go ahead and use the upcoming World War Z film as an excuse to celebrate your favorite brain eating friends this weekend. The AZ Collector’s Marketplace is showing Romero films, hosting a costume contest, and generally zombie-ing out for the evening, starting around 5pm.

National Underwater Robotics Challenge [Chandler]

Wanna spend your Saturday night getting really nerdy? Look no further, my friend. Roboticists are testing their skillz in an underwater robot challenge at Chandler High School. Plus their Facebook Event page has a picture of the Enterprise on it. Nerd levels off the charts, yo.

Sunday, June 9th

AnimeFest [Phoenix]

Because they love you, SabotenCon is hosting an all day AnimeFest! It’s like a li’l anime convention with a schedule and everything. Swing by the AZ Collector’s Marketplace (again) and spend the day geeking out. Starts at 11am.

Ghostbusters [Phoenix]

The Filmbar is playing Ghostbusters a couple of times, but you’ll want to be at the Sunday night screening as early as possible. The Arizona Ghostbusters will be there raffling off prizes for charity. Plus, Ghostbusters. Don’t miss it.

Did I miss anything? You going to any of these? Drop a comment.
