This weekend, Phoenix makes abominations out of Sci-Fi & Horror films, stays up way too late playing video games, makes a few games of its own, and hacks in the name of love.
Geek events in the valley tend to lie low for a while after Phoenix Comicon , but trust me, there’s always something nerdy to do in Phoenix:
Thursday, May 30th
Spoof N’ Cinema: Sci-Fi Surprise [Mesa]
I personally think Sci Fi and Comedy go together like Simon Pegg & Nick Frost, and the folks at National Comedy Theatre seem to agree. They’re taking a surprise Sci-Fi film, removing the audio, and replacing it with their own, live. Free, but let them know you’re coming.
Show starts at 7:30pm.
Friday, May 31st
LAN Speed All Night Lock-In [Peoria]
If the idea of spending an entire night locked in a building filled with other gamers running on pure caffeine sounds like the best Friday night ever, you’re in luck! LAN Speed is doing just that, and providing pizza.
Doors shut at 10pm and open again at 8am.
Don’t – Horror Remix [Phoenix]
The Horror Remix crew is taking a bunch of cult 80’s horror films with the word Don’t in the title, slicing them up, taking out everything boring, and crunching them back together into a 2 hour classic horror monstrosity – just for you.
Saturday, June 1st
Random Hacks of Kindness [Chandler]
Gangplank is participating in a National Day of Civic Hacking by ::inhales:: “bringing together citizens, software developers, and entrepreneurs from all over the nation to collaboratively create, build, and invent new solutions using publicly-released data, code and technology to solve challenges relevant to our neighborhoods, our cities, our states and our country…” Phew, that’s a mouthful.
I think it sounds cool, and if you have the time and skillz it could be a worthy way to spend a Saturday.
Intro To Game Development [Phoenix]
The new Game CoLab believes it can teach anyone (even a schlub like you) how to make a video game. Spend 4 hours of your Saturday with experts walking through the basics of game building. You and your friends ever dream of making a game? Couldn’t hurt to try it out.
PreHistoric Hunting – (No, seriously) – Pueblo Grande Museum – 9am
Daft Punk Tribute Party – Apollo’s Lounge – 9pm
