This weekend, Phoenix gets a whole lot of Captain Kirk, parties with a few monsters, and stares deep into Ira’s bespectacled eyes.
Have fun this weekend and leave boredom out shivering in the freezing Phoenix air.
Get an early start on your weekend with one of the greatest SciFi films of all time. There’s nothing like Khan’s glorious chest and Kirstie Alley’s calm Vulcan logic to take you far away from your troubles. This screening celebrates the 30th anniversary of the movie and is a part of this August’s CopperCon. A screening of the episode Space Seed starts at 7pm at the Pollack Tempe Cinemas, with Mr Khan’s Wrath starting around 8pm.
Feeling even campier? The Film Bar is screening Evil Brain From Outer Space, which just begs to be italicized when typed out. Join other b-movie junkies and absorb some old Japanese wackiness. Show starts at 8pm.
Wanting a final bash before shutting down, Monsterland is giving it all they have one last time. If you’ve never made it out, here’s your chance, and if you were a fan of the place, swing by and say goodbye. Starts at 7pm. I have a feeling if you showed up wearing a costume you wouldn’t be the only one.
An Evening with Ira Glass [Scottsdale]
Not cheap, but if you want to spend your evening listening to Ira talking candidly about This American Life it could be worth the dough. The show is at the Scottsdale Center for The Performing Arts at 8pm. I’d love to meet Ira and compare glasses. I still think his are bigger.
Last but not least, we have a second helping of Kirk – this time live. William Shatner is in town performing his one man show Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It. There are very few geek icons as great as the man who played Kirk and that guy who freaked out on a plane. Go see him if you can. Starts at 7:30 pm at The Mesa Arts Center.
Now go forth and geek it up a notch.
